mPOWEr at the Pacific Science Center through December 3

The mPOWEr team stands in front of their display, June 2017. Back: Brian Do, Ross Lordon, Cameron Gaskill, Bill Lober. Front: Heather Evans, Kristin Helps, Julie Cooper.

We are proud to announce that mPOWEr is featured in a new exhibit at the Pacific Science Center! Surgery + Innovation = A Better Way to Operate explores advances in surgical training, patient empowerment, and surgical methods that are improving patient outcomes and, in some cases, may lead to a future where ailments that previously required surgery no longer do. Our team gathered this past Saturday for a special viewing of the exhibit, along with other contributors, and we got a hands-on tour of simulated appendectomy!

Heather’s son tries his hand at laparoscopic surgery using a simulation trainer like surgical trainees use to develop minimally invasive surgical skills.

If you’re visiting Seattle this year, or especially if you’re a local, we invite you to come to the Pacific Science Center to see our work, and to learn more about surgery and surgical research. The exhibit runs through December 3, 2017.

Visitors to the exhibit get an opportunity to perform appendectomy on a model with the guidance of Pacific Science Center educators.
